It's not unusual for data files such as the .DAT and backup files such as .PTB to become damaged or corrupted. These problems can occur for many reasons ranging from network problems to dirty shutdowns. Peachtree file corruption can in some cases be a result of a failed upgrade. Often the data corruption can be carried over into the backup file (.ptb) and then you are left with a serious problem.
