Startup Guru Go to product page ![]() Have you ever wondered why it takes so long for Windows to load? Perhaps you are having problems with spyware loading and you can't seem to get rid it. Thanks to the folks at Lincoln Beach Software and their Startup Guru you can finally take control of what loads and doesn't. You remember how fast that new install of Windows ran. It seemed to load up in no time flat. Now you sit around waiting what seems like for hours as Windows slowly loads up, and your icon tray is filled with more and more icons ? and you have no idea what they all are! It's a fact of life that programs we install tend to cram everything they can into our startup sequence. It's also a fact that a lot of those programs we don't need, or could be malware or spyware trying to slow down or disrupt our computer. Installing Startup Guru is a snap. Two prompts and you are all done. The simple install gives way to a very simple, and easy to use, user interface. You will notice that you are given options for startup items for each profile on the computer (every user that has an account). A simple right-click of the mouse and you can bring up detailed information on each item listed (such as manufacturer, version, etc). ![]() It further let?s you control what gets loaded by going a step beyond just the startup sequence. You can control toolbar objects (such as Google toolbar, Yahoo toolbar, etc.). This is extremely useful as a lot of times spyware and malware hijack your Internet Explorer settings and redirect you to inappropriate or advertising sites and often hide deep within the registry and are not easy to uninstall. The final tab you will see is for browser helper objects. Toolbar objects are such things as the Adobe Reader plug in, Flash, etc. Again, this is a common place for malware and other programs to hide themselves trying to do damage. Thanks to the easy interface of Startup Guru their hiding place is soon revealed. The program extends its power to letting you specify not only what starts and what doesn't, but also let's you control the delay time of the startup. You may have a program that needs to wait for your network connection to come up, or a device (such as an iPod) to initialize. By setting a delayed startup you can give those devices and such time to initialize and be ready before the programs launch. Uninstall is painless, and the program cleans itself up completely. To make sure your system is completely restored it asks you upon uninstall if you would like to move any programs that it is managing, such as startup items you disabled or modified, back to their original locations. Overall, a worthwhile tool that can help solve a lot of problems you might be experiencing with your Windows OS. Combined with a good spyware detection tool, this should be part of your standard Windows tool belt. A 5-star choice! Go to product page
